In which the Hokey Pokey is not what it’s all about
You stand in the busy outer ward of Castle Anvard, full of people seeing to the needs of king and kingdom. There are market stalls along the outer wall, bustling with merchants and shoppers. Grooms work in the stables, tending to the horses there, and you hear the occasional bark of a dog from the kennels. The sounds of hammer hitting iron rings out from the blacksmith shop. There are stairs leading to the gate towers on the northern and southern corners of the outer curtain. To the east is the outer gatehouse, and the road leading into the realm of Archenland, and to the west another gate, leading to the inner gatehouse, the inner ward, and the main keep of Anvard.

Deonyc comes walking toward you from the Outer Gatehouse.
Haft strides through the ward in the direction of the blacksmith’s.
Deonyc walks up to Haft. “You on duty?”
Haft pauses as he’s greeted. “No, just off.”
Deonyc says, “Going to the Blaksmith?I need to get my blade fixed, got quite a few nicks and dents ,”
Haft nods slowly, looking a little sour. “Aye. I need a new whetstone.”
Deonyc says, “I felled a bear and two deer with my bow yesterday.”
Deonyc says, “My first bear actually. ”
Haft says, “Lucky, that. Must have been just coming out of its winter torpor.”
Deonyc says, “yes I guess so its better to hunt in fall when there fattened up for winter.”
Haft says, “Guess it depends. I don’t go after then much myself. Deer’re safer.”
Deonyc says, “Well if you’re good with a bow its only a few well placed shots that matter. But bears can take quite a few.”
Haft snorts. “Bears are more likely to run at you, too.”
Deonyc says, “Yes, ‘cept if your lucky they have quite a few arrows in them. Before they get to you.”
Deonyc says, “And normally you should hunt in groups.”
Haft says flatly. “If you’re not ‘lucky’ you’re dead.”
Deonyc says, “Well that’s life. Its all about avoiding death.”
Deonyc says, “Your job isn’t the safest either ”
Haft makes a face. “All about avoiding death. Seems hollow.”
Deonyc says, “Well it is a bit, would be kind of dull if life was only about death.”
Haft says, “My job isn’t about trying not to die. It’s about protecting. Having people you’re willing to die for. There’s a difference.”
Deonyc says, “Well it’s better if nobody dies.”
Deonyc asks, “Should we go and see if Eisenarbeiter can help us?”
Haft doesn’t look terribly keen on prolonging the interaction, but shrugs, “Yeah, I guess.” before walking into the Blacksmith’s shop.
You stand in a room made dark by soot. Eisenarbeiter, the smith, stands over the anvil between you and the fire. His tools are hung all around in an orderly way. Fine weapons and armor are displayed for sale on one wall, with a sign listing prices nestled between them. There are also horseshoes, and bits, and all manner of metalwork. A door leads to the Outer Ward.

Deonyc comes walking in from the Outer Ward.
Deonyc draws Sword from his Scabbard <WORN>.
Eisenarbeiter, the Smith looks over Deonyc’s Sword. “I can repair this for 720 coins.” he says.
Eisenarbeiter, the Smith nods, and takes the Sword from Deonyc. He moves to his forge and sits before it, heating the Sword and hammering it, then polishing it until it is almost as good as new. Eisenarbeiter, the Smith brings the weapon back to Deonyc and takes 720 coins from him. “There you go! Use it well!” he says.
Deonyc says, “Well got that done ”
Deonyc says, “Well haven’t got anything to do here anymore. See ya around.”
Haft grunts and looks to the man. “Could use a new whetstone,” he says.
Haft glances at Deonyc. “Right.”
Deonyc says, “Farewell.”
Deonyc walks from the smithy into the open air of the Outer Ward.
